This statement outlines the ethical standards expected from all parties involved in the publication process of Selaparang: Journal of Law Studies (SEJALS), including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal adheres to internationally recognized publication ethics principles inspired by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Selaparang: Journal of Law Studies is committed to upholding integrity, transparency, and scholarly responsibility in all stages of editorial and publishing activities.

Editorial Responsibilities

  1. The Editor-in-Chief holds the authority to determine which submitted manuscripts are suitable for publication, based on editorial policies, peer-review outcomes, and academic merit. Decisions are made in accordance with applicable legal and ethical standards, including those related to defamation, copyright, and plagiarism.

  2. Editorial evaluation is conducted impartially. Manuscripts are assessed solely on scholarly quality without discrimination based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, or political perspective.

  3. Editors and editorial staff maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and their contents. Information is disclosed only to corresponding authors, reviewers, editorial advisers, or the publisher when necessary for the review and publication process.

  4. Unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s explicit written consent.

  5. Editorial decisions are free from commercial, personal, or institutional influence and are guided exclusively by academic considerations and peer-review recommendations.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  1. Reviewers support editors in evaluating the scholarly quality, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts.

  2. Manuscripts received for review are treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without editorial authorization.

  3. Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear reasoning and constructive feedback to assist authors and editors.

  4. Reviewers are expected to identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and to alert editors to potential plagiarism, duplication, or ethical concerns.

  5. Reviewers should decline assignments when conflicts of interest exist or when they cannot complete the review within the agreed timeframe.

  6. All information obtained during the review process must remain confidential and may not be used for personal or professional advantage.

Author Responsibilities

  1. Authors must present accurate, original, and well-structured research or scholarly analysis, free from fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism.

  2. Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscripts, including the validity of data, interpretations, and citations.

  3. Submissions must represent original work not previously published and not under consideration elsewhere. Simultaneous submission to multiple journals is unethical and unacceptable.

  4. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be provided through appropriate citation and referencing.

  5. Authorship should reflect actual scholarly contribution, and all listed authors must approve the submitted and final versions of the manuscript.

  6. If significant errors or inaccuracies are discovered after publication, authors must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.

  2. The publisher safeguards editorial independence, allowing editors and reviewers to perform their roles without interference or undue influence.
